Student Visa Requirements for France

To get a student visa you have to start your application process around a year prior to your estimated time to leave the country.

It is pertinent to note that the above flowchart is only indicative and it is advised to take professional help from the experts at VEC to enable a no-glitch and properly documented application. A properly documented application improves the chance of obtaining a study permit.

There are three types of student visas for France:

1. Visa de court séjour pour etudes (‘Schengen’ short-stay student visa)

This is a three-month visa, suitable for students enrolling in a short-term or a language program. There wouldn’t be a need for a separate residence visa, this would be enough.

2. Visa de long séjour temporaire pour etudes (short-stay temporary visa):

This visa is valid for about three to six months and doesn’t require a separate residence visa and it cannot be renewed again.

3. Visa de long séjour etudes (long-stay visa):

You’ll require this visa if you want to stay for 6+ months in France. This visa is based on the duration of your course in France.
