Cost of Living in France

When compared to countries like the UK and USA, France is cheaper but just a little. The cost of Living in French cities is expensive. An average student in France spends about €1000/mon on essentials like rent, food, insurance, clothing, phone, etc. but it might differ on the basis of cities. Big cities would obviously cost more and vice versa.

1. Rent

Rent will take up the biggest piece of the pie in expenses. Rent prices in France vary from town to town, on average you would be spending around 550€/mon, which is basically 55% of your monthly expense. Rents are higher in cities like Paris and Montpellier

2. Transport

Public transportation in France is very accessible, you can get a monthly pass for around 50€ and an annual subscription will cost you somewhere between 250€-300€. You can also get an annual bicycle subscription for a discounted student rate.

3. Utilities

On average, a student spends about 350€ on basic utilities such as electricity, water, heating, and gas. Groceries will cost you a maximum of 100€, internet and mobile connection 26€, food and drinks 150€, electricity below 50€ and health insurance 25€.
